Continuous Cruisers

Lifestyle, London

HERE TODAY, GONE TOMORROW

When people ask me what it’s like to live on a boat I say, “It’s different.” “What’s so different about it?” And since they ask I sum up the long, boring, explanatory list about electricity, water, internet, the toilet-situation and by this they always seem to regret even asking. But when we come to the part about being continuous cruisers they seem light up again. You see, this is the best part, the moving around part. Every 7th to 14th day we have to move on, depending on where we have been moored, and that’s what makes life like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’re gonna get…

This bag is from the pound shop and will help me use less plastic bags. We’re going to carry a lot of groceries together; this bag that isn’t Chanel and I.

WORKING GIRL

We’ve written a lot of scripts, my Mac and I, and more will come… When my boyfriend’s kids are snoring in the morning, I tip toe out on deck, with a cup of fresh coffee, and start writing. Trying to get the most out of the summer mornings. BTW, do you see the train passing on the bridge?

RED, WHITE AND BLUE

Gratulerer med dagen!

The French have The Bastille Day, Americans have 4th of July, the Irish have St.Patricks day and the Norwegians have their 17th of May. I’ve often been asked what’s up with the Norwegians and their flag? And the first things that come to my mind are A: Freedom and B: The party is where the flag is. Wish you all a happy 17th of May! PS: This is a day where you’re allowed to eat as many hot dogs and as much ice cream as your stomach can handle ; )

#Boatlife – sunbathing on deck…

SUNNY SIDE

I wonder if this is how I’ll remember boat life when I’m old? I hope so. Hope I’ve forgotten about all those times I’ve thought: ‘That fucking boat.’ Haha. (Sorry Butter boat, I’ll never say that again.) I hope I’ll be thinking: ‘Those were the days when I sunbathed on deck.

Don’t step on the wet paint…

I want to show you a piece of what life is like on the boat at the moment. We’re fixing up the last room and it doesn’t matter if we’ve painted the floor; we still have to turn the engine on and off. So how does one get from one end of the room to the other without stepping on the black, wet paint? Just jump from beam to beam and pretend you’re in Dirty Dancing or Sex and The City.

THE SUNNY SIDE OF LIFE

What a fantastic day we’ve had! When the sun hits your face and you actually want to wake up in the morning – then you know it’s summer! (When you live on a boat you kind of skip spring and autumn. It’s either hot or cold, summer or winter. The rest are only shades of grey ; ) I found the first and best on the shelf, which turned out to be the perfect outfit for pale legs. A midi-skirt can easily be pulled up when you want to give your legs a bit of sun, but also hide them if that’s what you feel like. Just a little tip if you want to soak up the sun but feel a little too pale compared to the neighbour who’ve already spent months in a solarium, preparing.

WHEN THINGS ARE PILING UP

Hmmm…vanskelig.

One thing that was so great when we’d just bought the boat was that we almost didn’t have a thing in it. It was mostly just white walls, two chairs a sofa and there are many who dream about this kind of simple living. I’ve thought about it myself, that it must wonderful to have so little because your mind will probably be so clear. (Haha, I was wrong.) What I hadn’t thought about is how incredibly boring it is to not have anything – there’s nothing to do. Especially when you have limited access to water, can’t charge your Mac and internet doesn’t exist. We’ve fixed the latter now. But what happened was that we started filling up, like fairy tale figure Espen Askeladden, and one thing after another have come on board. Soon there’s no room for us anymore, so now some things will have to go but the question is what. Not the shoes. Not the clothes. Hmmm…difficult.
